I thank Miss keri Hilson for my catchy title.
So the season of love just passed and I was quite surprised. Compared to the past years in my life, most people around me didn't seem to care about it as much. Either everyone around me is just getting older and wiser or we're just too broke and comfortable to care. But it got me thinking about the general nature of love.
In my undergrad days, valentines day was a day for me to watch all the rom-com I could find from the late 90's to early 2000's and buy all my favorite take out Chinese food plus find a friend over 21 to get me some moscato. To a lot of my friends I was sad and alone and they honestly couldn't understand that amount of self love, and honestly it showed.

Now I'm not saying my feeling of self love is always 100% all the time. Sometimes, frankly it's 5%. The feeling of being in love or just love is relative to everyone and it changes for us, constantly. This applies to friendships, relationships with both family and significant others. But the truth that we often avoid is that love goes beyond the feeling and is a choice, a powerful choice. So I chose myself.
In the bible, God is love but personally I don't think that love defines all that God is. There is a piece of God inside every living creature, our inheritance. So we all inherit love. But then man is not designed to be alone. This love is meant to be shared and nurtured with others. But this love is a choice, a difficult one, not a feeling. Despite our disagreements, differences, shame and pride we have to choose love. Just like God chooses to love us despite what we do to ourselves, each other and the world.
I think when I came to this understanding of what love means to me, it helped me to see the world in a whole different light. We all inherited the ability to love and we are given the free will to choose it, and having that free will to choose is an expression of love we often ignore.
How many times can you recall that you have mistaken the feeling of infatuation for the choice of love and how many times have you ignored choices to show love expressed by those around you? Take this time to fermata and reflect on the little acts of love shown to you and the choices you can make to show love.
Always choose love.
Have good one!
