To all the gluten I've left behind.

One very serious fact about me is that I love food! I'm willing to try almost anything from any culture. It's ironic that I was insanely picky as a kid, but as I grew up I learned to find beauty in everything and food is very high on my list.
Unfortunately, I found out I have a gluten allergy. That was easily one of the worst days of my life. When I got the news after my food allergy test, time stood still and for a moment I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Since I already ate so much gluten I couldn't tell that I was allergic because my body had adapted to it. But eating gluten was wreaking havoc on my immune system.
So I've had to leave gluten behind and all the great pleasures it brings me. But I never did say a good farewell to the loves of my life; and this is the best way I know how.
Here is my list of gluten containing foods I will never forget and will occasionally eat if I'm in a YOLO type of head space.
1. BREEEEEAD!
I'm not talking about regular sliced white bread. NO NO NO. There are two types of bread that make my heart feel like the world can do no wrong. French bread and Nigerian bread.

Baguettes and Buttery flaky croissants will always be enough to make me crack under pressure. Especially when they're used to make Banh Mi. When I found this restaurant called Les Ba'get that had the freshest bread I ever had they made a believer out of me!! The sound of baguettes crunching will always be on repeat in my mind. Oh yes! Garlic bread with white truffles will never cease to bring me to complete silence and tears of joy to my eyes. God bless Italians!
Now Nigerian bread is one a different level, specifically Agege bread. If you don't know what that is find a Nigerian and they can explain the enormity of what this bread can do for your life. It can end family wars, it can fix a broken heart, it can cure the blues. Biting into this bread is like biting into a piece of warm heaven carefully placed into your hands by God himself.
Picture this, waking up on a Saturday morning with nothing to do; not having to clean because you did that last Saturday, still in your pajamas, you hear the sizzling of fried eggs in the kitchen, you walk in and God's bread is waiting for you fresh and hot. Tensions rise, and you're not sure how to start. Suddenly things get blurry and you find yourself with an empty plate and crumbs on your shirt. YES IT GETS THAT REAL. Goodbye old friend, till I become reckless again.
SIDE NOTE: I planned to make this one post but apparently I'm very wordy about my love for food. So this is going to become a mini series today is bread, next time will be another lover of mine.
Have a good one!!
